Brief Job Overview

While patients in the United States have long benefited from a generally safe and reliable supply of quality medical products, recent concerns around the quality, resilience, and security of medicines circulating in the United States have emerged. In response, USP launched the USP Resiliency Center and broadened our work from manufacturing and quality of pharmaceuticals and into both upstream and downstream supply chain solutions.

This role will lead in implementation and scaling of USP’s flagship resilience benchmark initiative, focusing on key clients within the value chain, including GPOs and manufacturers, while leveraging engagements to raise awareness and drive uptake of other USP downstream supply chain offerings, including Pharmaceutical Product Quality Testing (PPQT) with potentially others to be developed over time. Through deep engagement with group purchasing organizations (GPOs), health systems, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), distributors, and other healthcare stakeholders, identify emerging market needs and translate them into scalable offerings that improve purchasing decisions, increase supply chain transparency, and advance USP's public health mission.

As part of our mission to advance scientific rigor and public health standards, you will play a vital role in increasing global access to high-quality medicines through public standards and related programs. Additionally, USP’s People and Culture division, in partnership with the Equity Office, invests in leadership and workforce development to equip all employees with the skills to create high-performing, inclusive teams. This includes training in equitable management practices and tools to promote engaged, collaborative, and results-driven work environments.

The Senior Director, Downstream Supply Chain Solutions is responsible for:

• Lead commercialization and market adoption efforts for USP's Drug Resiliency Benchmark and related resiliency-focused offerings like the USP Pharmaceutical Product Quality Testing (PPQT) program.

• Collaborate with healthcare purchasers and supply chain stakeholders to establish benchmarking tools as trusted decision-support resources.

• Identify opportunities to integrate resiliency metrics, quality indicators, and supply-chain performance insights into healthcare purchasing practices.

• Partner with USP external affairs and government affairs colleagues to advocate with USG policy makers and other USG decision makers for adoption of critical supply chain resiliency solutions, including the resilience benchmark.

• Establish and maintain executive-level relationships with GPOs, health systems, IDNs, pharmacy purchasing organizations, distributors, wholesalers, and other key healthcare stakeholders.

• Build strategic alliances with organizations capable of accelerating market adoption, expanding distribution channels, and enhancing solution value.

• Identify opportunities to leverage collective action across healthcare stakeholders to improve medicine quality, availability, and supply assurance.

• Identify unmet needs, market gaps, and strategic opportunities within healthcare procurement, distribution, and delivery ecosystems that align with USP's mission and capabilities.

• Build business cases and commercialization pathways for new downstream supply chain products, services, benchmarks, and data-driven solutions.

• Create and maintain a multi-year portfolio growth strategy that balances market impact, customer adoption, and sustainable revenue generation.

• Serve as the voice of the customer, translating market feedback into actionable product and business development priorities.

• Represent USP at industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder engagement events to elevate USP's leadership in pharmaceutical supply chain quality and resiliency.

• Help shape industry understanding of quality, resiliency, and supply assurance as essential considerations in pharmaceutical purchasing and procurement.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, healthcare administration, public health, or related discipline required.

• 11+ years of progressive experience in healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical supply chain, healthcare procurement, healthcare strategy, market development, business development, consulting, or related fields.

• 7+ years of proven experience leading complex projects/ initiatives focused on clear business objectives (e.g., strategy development, complex service offerings, large business initiatives, etc.).

• 5+ years of experience in role with external facing responsibilities.

• Demonstrated experience developing and launching new products, services, business models, or market-facing solutions.

• Experience working with or influencing healthcare purchasing and supply chain stakeholders, including health systems, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), group purchasing organizations (GPOs), distributors, wholesalers, pharmacies, or other healthcare procurement organizations.

• Proven success establishing strategic partnerships and navigating multi-stakeholder environments to achieve business and organizational objectives.

• Deep knowledge of the downstream pharmaceutical supply chain.

• Highly organized with strong execution skills and results orientation.

• Strong communication skills with ability to adapt messaging by audience.

• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to navigate and resolve ambiguity.

• Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 25% of time.

Additional Desired Preferences

• Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MHA, PharmD, MS, or equivalent) preferred.

• Completion of a Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Pharmacy Residency, or equivalent residency training with exposure to supply chain management.

• Experience developing commercialization strategies and driving adoption of innovative solutions within complex healthcare or regulated markets.

• Experience in business-to-business marketing and sales.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will supervise external resource(s) engaged on a part time basis to support program demand generation. The role will also be assigned a project management resource on a 25 – 50% basis to support implementation.

Compensation

Base Salary Range: USD $200,812.00 – $286,157.00 annually.

Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.

Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate’s skill set, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
